Kevin James Wants To Be President Of Twilight’s Twi-Dads Fan Club

Kevin James wants to form his own Twilight fan club, the Twi-Dads, and he already has the support of one of the saga’s stars: Taylor Lautner.

Kevin James wants to be president of the Twilight fan club, « Twi-Dads. » The actor is perhaps best known for his role as the delivery driver Doug Heffernan on the CBS sitcom The King of Queens, with the character also appearing in Everybody Loves Raymond, Becker, and Cosby. James has also starred in a few hit comedy films, including Hitch, I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry, Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Grown Ups, Zookeeper, and Pixels, many of them alongside fellow funnyman Adam Sandler.

James’ latest project is Home Team in which he stars opposite Twilight actor Taylor Lautner, who played the saga’s shapeshifter Jacob Black opposite Kristen Stewart’s Bella Swan and Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen. Based on the life of the New Orleans Saints head coach, Home Team follows James as Sean Payton after he is suspended from the NFL for his involvement in the Bountygate scandal. Payton returns to his hometown in Texas and reconnects with his 12-year-old son by coaching his Pop Warner football team with the help of Troy Lambert (Lautner). Home Team also stars Rob Schneider and Jackie Sandler.

During an interview with Screen Rant promoting Home Team, Lautner revealed his aspirations for James to start the « Twi-Dads » Twilight fan club, a riff off the existing « Twi-Moms » group. James seemed receptive of the idea, even Lautner’s nominating of him to be the president. Read the exchange between the two stars below:

Lautner: So Twi-moms, they’re a big group. Twi-moms are some of our most passionate fans and we were saying that KJ should start the Twi-DADs.

James: Yes. Can I do that?

Lautner: Yeah, you can be like the President of them.

James: I’m officially doing that right now. I’m not even kidding. I am officially now putting it down and we are going to work on it.

While the Twilight movies were regularly panned by critics for their cheesiness and tendancy towards melodrama, each installment was an undeniable success at the box office. The Twilight movies grossed over $3.4 billion combined worldwide. This was largely due to the sizable fanbase that Stephanie Meyer’s vampire romance novels had already cultivated, evidenced by none other than the Twi-Moms themselves. The passionate fan club largely made up of middle-aged mothers has been going strong for over a decade now, and has tens of thousands of registered members on the group’s official website.

It’s unlikely that James will be able to find a similar demographic of dads swooning over the Twilight saga, though he did seem serious about his intentions to form the Twi-Dads fan club. Other than his passion for Twilight, James remains open to making Paul Blart 3. He currently stars in Home Team for Netflix, which debuted January 28 on the streaming service. While it has not enjoyed stellar reviews, many viewers have enjoyed Home Team‘s classic underdog story components. As James takes the initial steps to forming his own Twilight fan club, the actor can hope that his latest project at least garners some new members.
