Arsenal faced approaches for Alexandre Lacazette in the winter window, according to reports.
Arsenal let one senior striker go in the January window when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang departed on a free for FC Barcelona.
This leaves the Gunners with just Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah as senior striking options for the remainder of the season.
But, it appears Arsenal also had approaches for one of their remaining two striking options.
As per football.london citing French outlet L’Equipe, Lyon attempted to sign Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette during the January window and will make him a priority this summer.
With Lacazette now in the final six months of his current Arsenal deal, he can sign a pre-contract agreement with Lyon already.
But had Arsenal managed to bring in a new striker of their own in January, perhaps they could have recouped some sort of fee for Lacazette this month.
Arsenal’s striking problem
That is not the case, though, and Arsenal are left with two strikers who are expected to leave the club in June.
And even if Lacazette and Nketiah were not likely to leave in the summer, their form alone should have been enough for Arsenal to bring in a new no.9 this past month.
Lacazette is Arsenal’s main striker this term, but has scored just three goals in 16 league outings – only two of which have come from open play.
As for Nketiah, he has scored five in five in the League Cup, but he is yet to open his account in the Premier League in 2021/22, notching just 51 minutes of action in four league outings.
