Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill

Manchester United footballer Mason Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

For those not aware, a series of photos, videos and audio clips were posted on the Instagram account of a woman understood to be Greenwood’s girlfriend, on Sunday, appearing to accuse the Manchester United and England striker of physical and sexual assault.

The posts in question were subsequently deleted but were widely circulated on social media.

Manchester United released a statement on Sunday in the aftermath of this confirming that: “Mason Greenwood will not return to training or play matches until further notice.”

It was then reported on Monday that Greenwood had been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault.

And now, as per the Guardian, Greenwood has been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

In a statement, the Greater Manchester police said: “Detectives have been granted further additional time to speak to a man in his 20s who was arrested on suspicion of rape and assault of a woman.

“The suspect was detained in custody on Sunday (30 January) afternoon after we became aware of online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence.

“He continues to be questioned after magistrates authorised an extension until tomorrow (Wednesday 2 February).

“Following enquiries so far, he has since been further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.”

Elsewhere, it has been reported on Tuesday that EA Sports has removed Greenwood from active squads in FIFA 22
