Lyon president Jean Michel Aulas vows to « do our best » to land Arsenal star in the summer

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has reassured worried fans of the Ligue 1 side that they will be doing everything they can to bring Alexandre Lacazette back to France come the summer.

The former Lyon striker, currently in the final six months of his Arsenal contract, will be a free agent come the summer, and his old side are looking to pounce.

Lacazette, now 30 years old, netted 129 times in 275 games for Lyon, the club which he joined as a youth, in a career spanning 8 seasons in the French top flight.

And, speaking during their winter break, Aulas revealed that they will be making a play for his return.

‘We’ll do our best to sign Alexandre Lacazette in June’, the French side’s president claimed.

This news may well come of some solace to Lyon fans, who saw their best player sold to Newcastle this January and who currently sit in 7th in Ligue 1 at the midway point of the season, moving up courtesy of their win over Nice on Tuesday evening.

Lacazette’s departure from Arsenal is expected, who themselves have something of a striker crisis given that both he and Eddie Nketiah, the two recognised striking options, are out of contract in the summer.

This leaves the Gunners desperately searching for likely 2 new additions to their forward line come the next transfer window. Lacazette, meanwhile, could be tempted by a move back home.
