Warning: SPOILERS lie ahead for The Book of Boba Fett

Star Wars Rebels actor Kevin McKidd reveals he wants to play a live-action Fenn Rau in The Mandalorian season 3 in a similar vein to other characters. Developed by Simon Kinberg, Carrie Beck and Lucasfilm’s Executive Producer & Executive Creative Director Dave Filoni, the animated series is set 14 years after the events of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and centers on the titular group of fighters aboard a freighter called the Ghost as they conduct covert operations against Imperial forces. At the same time, the group must hide from the Galactic Empire as they continue to hunt down the remnants of the Jedi Order.

Star Wars Rebels ran for four seasons on Disney XD and received largely positive reviews from critics and audiences alike for its writing, expansion of the franchise’s lore and performances from its voice cast. The story and characters of the series have slowly made their way into the larger live-action Star Wars universe, with the droid Chopper and the Ghost appearing in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story while the ship also appears in the final battle of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker with Freddie Prinze Jr. also reprising his role of Kanan Jarrus with a vocal cameo in the closing chapter of the Skywalker Saga. With The Mandalorian further building the bridges between the animated and live-action worlds of Star Wars, one actor is hoping to join the group in the near future.

On the heels of the character’s return with the Darksaber, one fan took to Twitter to share their desire that Star Wars Rebels actor Kevin McKidd reprise his role as Fenn Rau for The Mandalorian season 3. The actor quote tweeted the original post with an agreement of wanting to play a live-action version of his character in the hit Disney+ series. See McKidd’s post below:

In Star Wars Rebels, Fenn Rau was a veteran of the Clone Wars who was initially against the rebel movement and accepted Imperial bribes to ensure no travel passed through his system, but was later swayed by heroine Sabine Wren and would join the Rebellion and Clan Wren in the Mandalorian Civil War. McKidd’s desire to bring the character back in a live-action format comes as both The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett have introduced live-action versions of fan-favorite animated characters, including Katee Sackhoff’s Bo-Katan Kryze and Rosario Dawson’s Ahsoka Tano. The most recent episode of the latter series saw the live-action debut of famed bounty hunter Cad Bane from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, who was revealed to be working for the Pyke Syndicate against Boba Fett.

With The Mandalorian season 3 set up to further explore the nature of the Darksaber’s ties to ruling the planet of Mandalore, the titular hero being asked to help reclaim his home planet by Bo-Katan and her Nite Owls and Ahsoka set to feature the live-action debut of Sabine Wren, it would make sense for Fenn Rau to make his live-action debut in the series. Given Fenn Rau’s past involvement in the Mandalorian Civil War, it would be interesting to see Bo-Katan reunited with the former royal family guard and explore their new dynamic in the universe. Only time will tell what the future may hold for the character when The Mandalorian makes its expected late 2022 premiere.
