Reuniting with frequent collaborator and writer Tony Kushner, who adapted West Side Story, Spielberg will serve as a co-writer and executive producer of the film, as well as the director.

The Oscar-winning and Emmy-nominated auteur director is best known for his signature surrealist and nightmarish films including Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and the television series Twin Peaks.
