In a comic-accurate DC Comics cosplay, Superman’s new boyfriend Jay Nakamura is brought to life perfectly by ensemble cosplayer @CafeDeDuy.

Warning! Spoilers for Superman: Son of Kal-El by DC Comics

While Jay Nakamura has only been around for a short period of time, Superman’s boyfriend is already getting cosplays bringing the DC Comics superhero to life. On his Twitter account, Duy Truong (@CafeDeDuy) shared his take on Jay Nakamura, as his comic-accurate cosplay perfectly captures the young hero’s original look. Even Superman: Son of Kal-El writer Tom Taylor noted the excellent work by the cosplayer.

Jay Nakamura was introduced to the DC Universe last year in Tom Taylor and John Timms’ Superman: Son of Kal-El series. Initially, Nakamura, who runs the underground news organization The Truth, was the newest friend of Jon Kent. However, their friendship quickly blossomed into a romance. The news of DC’s new Superman being bisexual made international headlines as his coming-out story drew critical acclaim. Nakamura also turned out to be one of DC’s best new characters, as it was quickly revealed he has his own phasing powers, which are currently being explored in the current ongoing series at DC Comics.

Oxtero VIDEO OF THE DAY

On his Twitter account, Duy Truong (CafeDeDuy) shared his take on Jay Nakamura with his cosplay being ripped right out of the pages of Superman: Son of Kal-El. Truong recreated the look seen in the comics, sharing a side-by-side of his cosplay with the InHyuk Lee variant cover for the series’ fifth issue. The cosplay features Superman’s boyfriend’s colorful hair, orange sweater with silver stripes on the chest, skinny jeans, and orange shoes. The look also features his orange gloves and glasses. All in all, the look is a pitch-perfect recreation of the character’s comic book appearance.

Writer Tom Taylor, who co-created Jay Nakamura with artist John Timms, shared Truong’s cosplay on his Twitter. Taylor said « nice work » to the cosplay, approving the look. The only thing that could make the cosplay better is, as Truong notes, is if he had a Jon Kent alongside him. Regardless, the cosplayer did a fantastic job bringing the hero to life.

Jay Nakamura is so much more than Superman’s boyfriend, so to see the hero continue to resonate with readers so quickly is a refreshing sight. Duy Truong’s comic-accurate cosplay is likely one of the first of many for the character, as Jay Nakamura hopefully has some staying power as Superman’s boyfriend’s adventures continue.
