He has to give us more’ Manchester United loanee slammed by new manager after lacklustre display

Manchester United loanee Anthony Martial was slammed by new boss Julien Lopetegui after his debut for Spanish side Sevilla.

The Frenchman departed Old Trafford late in the January transfer window, and opted to move to the side currently 2nd in La Liga, and just 4 points behind Los Blancos when the move was completed.

However, he endured a difficult start to his career in southern Spain. Deployed in a wide left berth of their 4-3-3, he and the rest of his side drew a blank against Osasuna, the first time they had failed to score in 18 La Liga matches.

Worse still, the Frenchman flattered to deceive, and was hooked after 77 minutes as Sevilla continued to hunt for a goal.

After the clash, his manager urged him to show more, but appreciated that it could take time for him to do so.

“He has to give us more,” Lopetegui said. “It was his first game, it’s not easy to adapt.

“He comes with a bit of baggage because he’s hardly played. Bit by bit he has to get up to speed.”

Martial’s United future looking bleak

Looking beyond this season, Martial’s Manchester United future looks bleak. Despite currently just Edinson Cavani and Cristiano Ronaldo as recognised striking options at the club, the Frenchman has still been starved of gametime this season, something that ultimately forced his loan move.

With two years left on his contract at Old Trafford come the summer, it will be up to the new manager just how his future plays out. But, having been out of favour with the last two head coaches in Manchester, it could be curtains to his time in the north west.
