Deadpool Creator Seemingly Confirms A Popular Doctor Strange 2 Rumor

Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld appears to confirm a popular rumor about potential Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness surprise cameos.

Comic book writer Rob Liefeld may have confirmed a popular rumor about Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. After Spider-Man: No Way Home, Marvel Studios is now gearing up for its next big-screen offering, which will again see Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) playing a prominent role in the MCU. Aside from Cumberbatch’s Stephen Strange, the sequel from Spider-Man trilogy director Sam Raimi will expand on the MCU’s new multiversal focus and is rumored to feature multiple Marvel character cameos.

Among those definitely joining Cumberbatch in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are returning stars Benedict Wong as Wong, Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo. The Phase 4 film will also welcome Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, who has now assumed the role of Scarlet Witch. Finally, the blockbuster will debut a brand new MCU hero in Xotichl Gomez’s America Chavez. Aside from the blockbuster’s already impressive ensemble, however, speculation has been swirling around what other newcomers could make an appearance from the Marvel catalog, including those from the X-Men or Fantastic Four franchises.

Characters from the Fox/Marvel universe’s involvement in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness may have been recently confirmed by Liefeld. During his recent guest appearance on The Big Thing with Kristian Harloff (via The Direct), the Deadpool creator spoke about the new Doctor Strange sequel. He said that, to his knowledge, Marvel Studios is currently testing the film on a regular basis, and claims that rumors about Fox/Marvel character appearances are indeed true. Read Liefeld’s full comments below:

« You want me to see it six times, you bring some of that [Fox-Marvel] stuff in… And actually, I know on some level, some of it is already there. I have just revoked every – every one of my [Marvel] passes just got revoked.”

It’s worth noting that Liefeld didn’t reveal how he is aware of this information, or whether he has attended any Doctor Strange 2 test screenings. Given that the comic book writer was quick to joke that his « Marvel passes » had been « revoked, » it’s possible that these insights came from either a screening or studio insider, but Liefeld didn’t confirm how he « know[s] » Fox/Marvel cameos will occur. As always, Marvel Studios has worked hard to keep plot details of Doctor Strange 2 tightly under wraps, with a new Multiverse of Madness trailer or TV spot expected to be released during this week’s Super Bowl. However, any new marketing material is unlikely to confirm any surprise cameos, but instead follow in the footsteps of Spider-Man: No Way Home to keep any potential new characters hidden until theatrical release. Until more concrete information arises, it’s important to take Liefeld’s insights with a grain of salt for now.

The rumors surrounding Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ cameos are never-ending. Hollywood star Tom Cruise has even been floated as a potential appearance, with some speculation that he will play a version of Iron Man. Given the film hits theaters in March, the marketing campaign is sure to kick into a higher gear in the coming weeks, and anticipation for Phase 4’s next installment is at an all-time high after the huge success of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Whether or not the Super Bowl spot sheds light on any new Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness characters, it certainly gives more than just football fans a reason to tune in.
