10 Jaw-Dropping Betrayals That Happened In Parks & Recreation

As a mockumentary, Parks, and Recreation had more comical moments than sad ones. Leslie Knope’s electric energy mixed with the likes of Ron Swanson, April Ludgate, Donna Meagle, and Tom Haverford made the series upbeat despite negative things life threw their way.

However, in between the moments of happiness and teamwork were acts of betrayal. As thoughtful as characters like Ron Swanson, Chris Traeger, and others could be, they were still betrayed by those they trusted.

When Leslie Stood Ron Up In His Time Of Need

One of the greatest forms of betrayal came from Leslie Knope. After moving on from Pawnee’s Parks and Recreation Department, she became the Regional Director of National Park Service Midwest Region. Since Leslie continued working in the same building, she brought April and Larry with her. This left Ron by himself since Donna and Tom already quit.

Oxtero VIDEO OF THE DAY

Ron and Leslie were one of the best duos and he hated his new work reality without her. He then did the unthinkable: he was going to ask Leslie for a job working for the federal government. Leslie promised him to have lunch the following day but never showed up. Ron felt betrayed by his friend and former colleague and took it out on her afterward. It was the end of a beautiful friendship.

April Unintentionally Hurt Ron By Scheduling 94 Meetings

Meetings come with the territory for those in the parks and rec. department — but not for Ron Swanson. Ron hated meeting with the townspeople and specifically hired April so that she would get him out of said meetings. And while it’s an unpopular opinion not to like April’s friendship with Ron, the duo went through a rough patch when she accidentally scheduled over 90 meetings.

Ron and Leslie had to endure countless meetings in one day because of April’s mishap. April felt like there was no coming back from her accidental betrayal of Ron’s trust, so she quit. Luckily for her, Ron is a forgiving man and gave her another chance.

How Could Ron Start Dating Wendy When He Knew How Tom Felt About Her?

In season 1, Tom surprised everyone when he admitted to being married to a successful surgeon named Wendy. Wendy was clearly out of Tom’s league and everyone made it known, which was a rather said realization for Tom. It turns out that the two were not in love and got married in college so that Wendy could get her green card.

The moment Ron found out that Wendy was divorcing Tom, however, he swopped in. By season 3, Ron and Wendy were in a full-on relationship. Although Wendy didn’t love Tom and their arrangement was unconventional, Ron betrayed Tom because Tom truly loved Wendy.

Leslie Threw Ann’s Dating Life In Her Face

There’s no doubt that Leslie and Ann Perkins were friendship goals. They supported each other in all areas of life shortly after meeting, but that didn’t mean the twosome didn’t have their down moments.

In ‘The Fight,’ Leslie was annoyed that Ann wasn’t taking this new job opportunity at city hall seriously. Instead, Ann was focused on going on dates. Leslie’s anger came from the desire to work with her best friend but it came out in the form of betrayal. While at the bar, Leslie spewed hate at Ann for losing herself in so many boyfriends. Ann defended herself and the two fought for the entire night. Both women felt betrayed and hurt by the other.

Leslie Was Betrayed When She Was Recalled

After years of working in the parks and rec. department, Leslie was ready for something new — the city council. Leslie was excited to be a city council representative but it didn’t last long. Because of her ongoing issues with Councilman Jeremy Jamm and the changes she was implementing around the city, Leslie was recalled in season 6.

Leslie felt betrayed by the very city that she dedicated her life to. Ron reminded Leslie that she chose a thankless job, but it didn’t make the pain go away. Leslie loved Pawnee and wanted Pawnee to return the favor.

When Food Betrayed The Foodies

Parks and Rec has a lot of characters who consider themselves foodies. Leslie loves breakfast food, Ron loves his meat, Chris adores his vegetables… Food is a big piece of the series and is the characters’ source of comfort. But in season 5, the food they loved betrayed them all.

With Ben and Leslie being one of the best couples, Ben asked Chris, Tom, and Ron to help pick the menu for their wedding. In a tough turn of events, all four men were hit with food poisoning. The very calzone that Ben adored betrayed him and his three colleagues. The men spent the rest of the day in agony at work.

April Felt Betrayed By Leslie Over The Dog Park

In ‘Leslie vs. April,’ April finally found a passion at work when she thought of implementing a dog park in Pawnee. After working at Pawnee’s animal shelter, April thought this was the next best step. Leslie, on the other hand, didn’t.

Due to April’s proposed dog park being on Lot 48, Leslie shot down the idea immediately. April felt betrayed by Leslie for turning down her idea all because Leslie was possessive over Lot 48. It’s not every day that April was passionate about something, so she felt hurt. Likewise, Leslie was upset with April for even suggesting the lot that she’s been fighting to turn into a park for four years.

The Love Triangle Of Betrayal

Fans felt sad for Ann at the start of Parks and Recreation because she was in a relationship with Andy that wasn’t going anywhere. When they broke up, April started having feelings for him. But things soon got complicated

In ‘Freddie Spaghetti,’ Andy injured himself and landed in the hospital. As his nurse, Ann felt a quick urge to protect Andy and kissed him. Shortly after kissing him, they realized it was a mistake and she left. Soon after, April entered Andy’s room the two shared their first kiss. But after kissing two girls on the same day, Andy felt like he had to tell April. After telling her, April left quickly and wanted nothing to do with either of them. April felt stupid and betrayed by both Ann and Andy. It took a while before April could trust either of them again.

Leslie Went Too Far With The Scouts

Ron Swanson gives great advice and is a fantastic mentor when he’s in his element. This is why he was the troop leader for the Pawnee Rangers. Having quiet time with the Rangers in the great outdoors was one of Ron’s favorite things. Knowing this, it was odd that Leslie turned it into a competition, creating the Pawnee Goddesses.

Ron knew he couldn’t compete with Leslie’s zany energy and activities, and he soon lost his Rangers to the Goddesses. Ron silently felt betrayed by Leslie. This was one of the few things he enjoyed doing and she took his troop from him.

Leslie & Ben Pulled The Rug Out From Chris

As heartwarming and upbeat as Chris Traeger is, his attitude switched when he learned the truth about Leslie and Ben’s relationship. As two members of the city government, Leslie and Ben weren’t allowed to be romantically involved because it was unethical and could affect their respective jobs.

Leslie and Ben stayed true to themselves and were honest with Chris. Instead of being happy for them, Chris felt betrayed. He felt like Leslie and Ben were sneaking around and now his job just became more complicated because he had to take them to trial. Ben ended up quitting to save his relationship, but Chris was deeply hurt by the position they put him in.
