Elden Ring Will Have Very Difficult Optional Bosses, Producer Promises

[ad_1]

Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao has revealed that the game will have extremely tough optional bosses, which is fitting for a FromSoftware title.

Elden Ring will feature some extremely tough optional bosses, keeping with the FromSoftware tradition of keeping its toughest challenges outside of the boundaries of the main quest. Dark Souls has some incredibly hard bosses, which is equally true in Bloodborne, Demon’s Souls, and Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, but the hardest bosses tend to be kept outside of the story.

The concept of the super boss is something that was popularized in the JRPG genre, with Warmech from the original Final Fantasy seen as the first of its kind. A super boss is usually harder than the final boss of the story mode and it exists to provide the toughest possible challenge for the most dedicated of players. The games produced by FromSoftware have also used incredibly difficult optional bosses in their games, especially once DLC is added into the equation. Bloodborne‘s best bosses were found in the DLC and all of them were optional, as the player could complete the game just fine without ever entering The Hunter’s Nightmare.

The bosses in Elden Ring have made a number of appearances in the promotional material for the game and it seems that the hardest ones are still waiting in the wings. Elden Ring producer Yasuhiro Kitao told Gamer Braves (via IGNthat Elden Ring will contain tough optional bosses that need to be sought out by the player. Kitao said that Elden Ring « deliberately increased the challenge » for players seeking a challenge, but they will be hidden throughout the world.

Elden Ring has a massive open world and the footage revealed so far means proves that there will be plenty of places for the developers to hide secrets. This will ensure that players don’t accidentally stumble upon these incredibly challenging bosses, as was sometimes the case in the older FromSoftware games. The players who are coming from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will also be able to call on the aid of other players to deal with the tough bosses in Elden Ring, unlike those poor souls who had to fight Isshin, the Sword Saint on their own.

The question of difficulty in video games is something that comes up a lot in relation to the FromSoftware games. Elden Ring‘s multiplayer and optional bosses are equivalent to difficulty options. The multiplayer can be used for players who need a little extra help, while the optional bosses are there for the diehard players, who can only find satisfaction by defeating the toughest enemies while playing as a deprived and using a broken sword hilt.

Elden Ring releases February 25th on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
