This season saw major changes for the Brown family, as they were largely separated from each other during the COVID-19 pandemic. Kody and his third wife Christine Brown ended their relationship after years of marital problems, and many fans think that Meri will be next to go. Before her segment at the reunion, Meri shared some cryptic Instagram stories that left fans wondering where she stands with Kody, and whether she will continue the show.
Sister Wives season 16 saw the large Brown family at odds over how to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic. Kody and his fourth wife Robyn felt that there needed to be more isolation, whereas Christine and Janelle Brown saw each other more regularly, and went out sometimes. The pandemic hit this family especially hard because many of the kids from the different wives were unable to see their siblings and had to practice social distancing. There was a lot of fighting about whether the Brown family would stay together in Flagstaff long term, or move back to Utah as Christine wanted.
By the end of the season, the tension levels rose higher than ever, and Christine ultimately made the choice to leave Kody and the other sister wives. In the first part of the reunion, each of the wives and Kody sat down for a one-on-one interview to discuss their feelings about the season. Christine revealed that she and Kody had stopped being intimate, and said that this issue was one of the factors that led her to leave. In the interview with Meri, she stated that she and Kody hadn’t slept together in over a decade.
On Meri‘s Instagram post, she shared a picture with a quote reading « People who are not happy with themselves, cannot possibly be happy with you » along with a message that read, « your perception may not be my reality. » It is unclear whether this message was directed at trolls who throw shade at her on Instagram or in reference to her marriage with Kody. Many fans thought that her post meant that there were reasons they did not understand that made Meri stay with Kody after all of these years. Others said it could be interpreted as a jab against Kody because they believe that he treats her poorly due to his own unhappiness.
Despite the cryptic quotes, Meri’s recent post shows her in high spirits, as she said she would start speaking up for herself more. She also added that she is happy with where she is in life and with herself. Meri said « I know my value. I know my worth, » likely in response to fans who are questioning why she stays in a spiritual union with Kody. Fans are happy to see Meri thriving and they are ready to see more of the drama in the other two parts of the Sister Wives reunion special.
