Why Robyn Brown Can’t Shed The Puppetmaster Label

Sister Wives star Robyn Brown has been accused of manipulating Kody and the rest of the family for years. Is she really a puppetmaster?

Robyn Brown from Sister Wives is considered a pariah by many fans, and she’s having a difficult time shaking accusations that she’s the one who’s really pulling the strings in the Brown family. People who watch the series have been suspicious of Robyn since she joined the Brown clan in 2010 because they believe that she manipulates Kody and further damages his already fragile relationships with his other wives. With Christine Brown’s exit from the polygamous brood, fans are adamant that Robyn has played a key role in initiating the drastic changes within the Brown family.

Robyn and Kody have often portrayed themselves as a duo within the family, visiting the other wives’ homes as a pair, rather than Kody cultivating one-on-one time with members of his fractured family. Sister Wives star Robyn’s seemingly caring demeanor toward the other wives is questioned, and her concerns surrounding their relationships with Kody are often considered interference by fans. Robyn’s fear of being thought of as an interloper in an already established family may be realized as fans continue to damage her reputation.

Robyn’s conduct with Kody over the years has added fuel to the fire and sparked fan theories that Robyn is in control of the Brown family. The show’s viewers have noticed the drastic change in Kody Brown’s demeanor towards other members of his family as he grows more apathetic about plural marriage. He has chosen to live semi-permanently with Robyn. The older Brown children have not been silent about their belief that it’s actually Robyn, instead of Kody, who is responsible for the disintegration of the family. They think she coerces Kody into fulfilling her own whims and desires by making him believe her wishes are his own idea.

The family’s tension came to a head when Janelle’s sons contacted Robyn (not Kody) to request that the family’s COVID-19 restrictions be lifted. An enraged Kody insisted that he was « head of the family » and that there was no « head wife« . However, his statements fell flat as the other wives recognized that he obviously prioritizes Robyn and the needs of her household, while Janelle, Christine, and Meri all claimed to be the heads of their own homes. Robyn’s lack of interaction with the older children and the other wives has driven a wedge in her relationships with the family and impacted Kody’s relationships with them too.

Some viewers believe the family must appease Sister Wives‘ Robyn in order to gain ground with Kody, who has long claimed that his loyalty is to the family unit itself, rather than any particular wife. However, recent outbursts toward his other wives in unwarranted « defense » of Robyn suggest the patriarch is showing more loyalty to her instead. One example is his heated exchange with Meri over a miscommunication concerning lots at the contentious Coyote Pass property. Robyn’s ability to coerce Kody with tears and a seemingly self-sacrificing attitude has been vehemently ridiculed by fans.

Robyn’s long-time outlook on polygamy has often involved her inserting herself into the relationships between Kody and her fellow Sister Wives. Her allegedly altruistic reasoning was that any disagreement between Kody and another wife would cause ripple effects within the other relationships. However, many fans view Robyn’s « devotion » to her family as just another way to keep her position as the « queen wife. »
