The Umbrella Academy Twitter account has released ominous posters depicting the returning cast ahead of the third season of the Netflix hit series.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 ominous character posters depict the returning cast with tattered umbrellas. Adapted from Gerard Way’s Dark Horse Comics series, the show follows a dysfunctional family of child superheroes reunited by tragedy. The Umbrella Academy stars Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, and Ritu Arya.
Following the apocalyptic Moon fragment meteor shower caused by Vanya (Page) accidentally destroying the moon in the first season, season 2 of The Umbrella Academy resolved many issues for the Hargreaves family while uncovering new troubles that would come to haunt them in the future. While some members of the family found some closure while averting the apocalypse in 1969, season 2 also introduced superpowered foe Lila Pitts (Arya) and the Sparrow Academy taking their places in the new present-day timeline following their time-traveling adventure. With a whole new world and new troubles facing the Hargreaves family in season 3, Netflix has given fans their first look at the returning cast members.
The Umbrella Academy Twitter account shared seven posters focused on each of the main returning cast members. The posters feature Luther (Hopper), Diego (Casteñada), Allison (Raver-Lampman), Klaus (Sheehan), Five (Gallagher), Vanya, and Lila in their outfits from the upcoming season, each holding the series’ iconic black umbrellas below the 3rd season’s logo. While giving a tease of how each character will look in the upcoming season, the posters also carry foreboding implications. Each poster’s umbrellas are tattered and torn. The shadows depict large flocks of birds descending on each character, hinting at the conflicts with the Sparrow Academy in the upcoming season. Check out each character’s poster below.
Raver-Lampman recently gave an update on the current status of the third season while promoting an upcoming movie. While the star couldn’t offer an exact release date, Raver-Lampman did indicate that the season was currently in the midst of production, with the cast returning to record ADR for the season. While COVID-19 may have caused production to slow down, Raver-Lampman stated that she hopes that series will be released during the summer. Raver-Lampman also teased the scale of the upcoming season, describing the scale as « massive. »
Though the posters are focused on teasing the returning characters of The Umbrella Academy season 3, the promotional material does provide some exciting hints at the emotional third season. While Ben (H. Min) is alive in the current timeline, he is omitted from the recently released posters after being featured in season 2’s promotional material. With the birds in the recently released posters hinting at conflict with the Sparrow Academy, it is possible Ben may be facing his former family in the coming season. Lila’s inclusion also suggests that she, too, made it to the new timeline and may join forces with the Hargreaves family despite being a former enemy. In a world turned upside down where the Academy never happened, anything is possible when The Umbrella Academy releases later in 2022.
